It was Mother’s Day at Lilah’s school. I was so excited to be with her and see all the things she does now that she’s five. She showed me her language box, how she matches the words to the pictures, then compiles the matching rhyming words and finally writes those words in her copybook. I was so impressed. It was amazing to see my little girl at work. She was cruising through her job until it was time to write the words. Suddenly, she could no longer focus. She wanted to talk, look around the room, and do anything else but put a pencil to paper.

I too am often easily distracted but I needed to keep her on task. I explained to her the simplified version of Colossians 3:23, “Work willingly at whatever you do, as though you were working for the Lord rather than for people” and with that, she finished her work. I didn’t realize I would need that same lesson the following morning when I had a project to complete. It was the last thing on my to do list and the fear of doing it perfectly had me procrastinating. I read my Jesus Calling Devotional first thing in the morning for inspiration. The daily reading talked about how we are human and therefore will make mistakes but we can give our mistakes to God and He can turn them into something beautiful.

That was this project. I had attempted it before and I made the mistake of caring so much what other people thought that I never put it out for the people it was intended to help. Now as I brought my past failures to God, I was reminded that the only One I’m working for is Him. All I need to do is try my best and simply do. Suddenly the anxiety of displaying my work disappeared. The creation of this project over the years has brought me such joy. It’s one of the things in life I feel called to do and I just can’t rest until it’s done so without further adieu, here it is…
