RISE TO THE CHALLENGE

Sometimes we don't know what we can do until we just do the thing that scares us most.

I was packing us up for the pool when my kids asked for oranges. I love when my children want to eat healthy foods but the thought of cutting up oranges the way they like them, (away from the rind in small squares) was not going to fit into our time crunch of making it to the pool by 11 so we'd have time to practice swimming before my daughter had to be at camp by 2. Maybe we were a little over ambitious this morning but our summer had been slipping away from us so I wanted to make the most of it, since I'm finally in my second trimester and now have slightly more energy. From the kitchen I called out, I'll cut up oranges for you guys if you eat them the regular way (at least my version of the regular way;) Happily they obliged and were sitting at the counter in record time. If only that was the same reaction I received when I said, "dinner time!" Maybe I'll have to start every meal with an appetizer of oranges;) Surprisingly, my one year old and five year old ate those oranges like they were old pros. Why had I been wasting all this time babying them when they could rise to the occasion? It made me wonder what I could do myself if I stopped making excuses for something being too hard. They had adjusted in record time and they were good at it too. So, let's dive right in to the things that scare us this week. Who knows, we may be pleasantly surprised with the ease in which new hurdles can be accomplished:)
